Covering the period January 1 through June 30, 1975, this second semi-annual report on the Applied Fishery Science Program operative at Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, Alaska presents information regarding program progress and Alaska Native students involved in science education. Specifically, this report details: Planning and Coordination (permit application, curriculum coordination with other universities advertising and student recruitment, funding sources); Academic Program and Placement Service (curriculum development, first year enrollment, and placement service); Aquaculture Facilities (site selection, hatchery and weir, and wet lab and classroom preparation); Advisory Services (information dissemination and contact record). A program summary is also provided indicating: state-wide liaison has been established with Native groups, educators, consultant firms, fisherman organizations, and private hatcheries; direct assistance has been given to fisheries programs of the Tlingit and Haida Central Council, the Metlakatla Island Reserve, the Aleut League, and the Bristol Bay Native Association; the two-million egg campus gravel incubation hatchery is expected to go into operation in the fall of 1975 as one of the first private hatcheries in Alaska; the multiple credential fisheries program is based upon parallel fisheries curricula in other colleges and input from Alaska fisheries agencies and Native leaders.
