Hunter Education Instructors Manual.
Alexander, Jack E.
The instructors manual for teaching ethics, conservation, and safe hunting to Alaskans provides a uniform course in hunter education for both young people and adults, regardless of previous hunting experience. Developed as part of a training program in hunter ethics and safe handling of hunting equipment, the hunter education course is designed to be taught by volunteer instructors certified by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the National Rifle Association. The manual for the basic eight-hour course (with an additional, optional five hours) has detailed lesson plans on hunting ethics and responsibilities, the antihunter movement, wildlife management, operation and proper use and care of firearms, ammunition, basic marksmanship and field use of firearms, survival procedures and first aid, live fire, and course review and administering examinations. In addition, there is a glossary of terms relating to firearms and ammunition, a list of laws pertaining to firearms, and student tests and keys. A section on suggestions for teaching and training aids lists appropriate film, film strip, and slide show resources. Detailed information covers how to begin and publicize a class in a community, what facilities to use, limits on class size, registration, and certification of students who pass. (RS)
