Concepts in Building Firesafety.
Egan, M. David
The goal of this book is to present in a graphical format the principles of design for building firesafety. The book's more than 270 illustrations represent the core of its coverage of factors affecting fire ignition and spread in buildings, building site planning for fire suppression and occupant rescue operations, protection by building materials and constructions, fire detection and suppression systems for buildings, smoke and heat venting techniques, escape and refuge principles for occupant protection, and finally the special case of firesafety for tall buildings. The contents are intended to help students of building design and fire science to understand the theoretical bases of building codes and standards, and to develop the fundamental knowledge needed to achieve firesafety in the built environment. In addition, the illustrations should facilitate understanding of building firesafety concepts by architects, builders, interior designers, and urban planners. An introduction to the concept of systems analysis applied to design for building firesafety is included and in the appendices are an extensive metric system conversion table for common building firesafety units and selected listings of firesafety references and standards of particular interest to the building profession.
