The purpose of this document is to describe the characteristics of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD); identify several federal-level FASD initiatives that emphasize education; and describe four state-level FASD initiatives that involve state education agencies (SEAs). An appendix at the end of the document provides a list of educational resources for students with FASD. Project Forum at the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) produced this document as part of its collaborative agreement with the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).
