The Dysart Unified School District (Dysart) in Arizona covers 140 square miles and serves numerous communities, including the cities of Surprise and El Mirage and some unincorporated areas of Maricopa County. At one time the fastest-growing school system in Arizona, Dysart has tripled in size since 2000. The district continues to grow, and in School Year (SY) 2010-11, the student population was just over 24,000, compared to approximately 7,000 in SY 2001-02. This interactive profile demonstrates how one school district successfully responded to explosive growth in student enrollment by undertaking a collaborative strategic planning process that covered a full spectrum of issues to improve learning.
