One of five McDonald's Action Packs, these instructional materials integrate elementary school-level nutrition education into other disciplines--biology, sociology, physiology, mathematics, and art. Contents include four units consisting of twelve activities. Unit 1, Why You Need Food, is a self-examination of what is needed for growth, health, and energy. A study of the basic four food groups and simple menu planning is contained in unit 2, Your Daily Food Guide. Unit 3, What Food Is Made of: Nutrients, discusses protein, energy foods (fats and carbohydrates), water, vitamins A and C, calcium, and iron. The final unit, Eating Too Much, is a presentation of facts concerning overweight and admonitions to avoid eating too much. Each unit includes some or all of the following: an introduction, brief descriptions of the various unit sections, activities, suggested activities, and instructions for using activity sheets. Student activity sheets suitable for reproduction are provided. (YLB)
