Designed for use in grades 6, 7, and 8, this curriculum guide provides 11 individual units for teaching Kentucky history and geography with the recommended text "Kentucky Heritage" published by Steck-Vaughn. Unit titles are The Blue Grass State, Early Explorations of Kentucky, Development of the Government of Kentucky, The Constitution of Kentucky, The Civil War, Life on the Frontier, Kentucky's Black History, The History of Transportation and Economy, Modern Politics in Kentucky, Famous Kentucky People and Places, and Local History. Learning activities include map study, oral presentations, play writing, drawing a time line, and group discussions. Unit ten, Famous Kentucky People and Places, includes a comprehensive list of parks, shrines museums, and natural wonders and names of famous authors, politicians, artists, athletes, musicians, social reformers, pioneers, scientists, and educators.
