Lab with Dad
Havers, Brenda; Delmotte, Karen
Science and Children, v49 n6 p62-64 Feb 2012
Family science nights are fantastic, but planning one can be overwhelming, especially when one considers the already overloaded schedule of a classroom teacher. To overcome this challenge, the authors--colleagues with a mutual love of science--developed a much simpler annual event called "Lab With Dad." The purpose was for one target age group of students to have an evening of "doing science" with their dads. Lab With Dad's main goal was to create an opportunity for family members to get involved with their children in the learning and practicing of science skills. In addition, the authors wanted to do science lab activities with students that could not be done in the everyday classroom because of inadequate adult supervision and assistance. Lab With Dad was a way to supplement their science curriculum and enrich the student's learning experience. (Contains 1 figure and 3 online resources.)
