Although the Latino population is currently the largest minority ethnicity in the U.S. (U.S. Census, 2008), Latino students enroll in college and graduate in proportionately the smallest numbers (Latino, 2002). This dissertation examined the effect of Latino students' families on their decision to remain in school and finish a bachelor's degree. This issue was explored through a qualitative study, using small focus groups, interviews, and an information form that examined cultural influences, ranging from language and acculturation, to the United States and family environment. The study findings suggested that Latinos who persisted and did not persist had a positive influence from their family and culture to complete school.
