"Inextricably Linked": Shared Governance and Academic Freedom.
Gerber, Larry G.
Academe, v87 n3 p22-24 May-Jun 2001
Asserts that academic freedom requires a governance system in which faculty expertise--often residing in an individual, but also expressed at times in a collective fashion--is the determining factor in institutional decisions affecting academic matters. Discusses why faculty governance is especially important in protecting liberal education against elimination in the face of corporate-style management of universities. (EV)
