Trends in Undergraduate Economics Degrees, 1991 to 2004
Siegfried, John J.
Journal of Economic Education, v36 n3 p309 Sum 2005
In this article, the author reports the percentage of undergraduate degrees in economics from 1991 to 2004. The explosive growth from academic year 2001 (2000-01) through 2003 in undergraduate economics degrees awarded by American colleges and universities, particularly large state universities, moderated a bit in 2004. Virtually all of the 27 percent decline in degrees experienced from 1992 to 1996 was recovered by 2003. By 2004, annual bachelor's degrees in economics were about 10 percent above their 1992 level. The only category that lost ground in 2004 was private PhD-granting universities.
