Attempts to identify the conditions which affect the professional development of both experienced and inexperienced teachers. After presenting the theoretical and conceptual framework of the problem, discusses professional development needs identified by preschool and primary school teachers in an exploratory study done in Montreal, Quebec (Canada), and analyzes study implications.
