This bulletin contains general guidelines on the Diploma Examinations Program required for all grade 12 students for the 1987-88 school year in Alberta, Canada. The grade 12 Diploma Examinations Program is an integral part of the high school diploma requirements and is intended to develop and maintain excellence in educational standards through certification of academic achievement. The Diploma Examinations Program consists of examinations in selected grade 12 courses such as English 30, English 33, Social Studies 30, Mathematics 30, Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Physics 30, and Langue et Litterature 30. Students must take at least one of these examinations to qualify for a high school diploma. To obtain credit in a diploma examination course students must attain a final grade (derived from the course-awarded grade and the exam grade) of 50% or better. Other information in the bulletin includes eligibility criteria, registration information, grade 12 diploma examination schedules, reporting test results, and admission to postsecondary institutions. A chapter on procedures for administering the tests describes grading, and gives marking dates. A final section of appendices includes policies for learning disabled and physically disabled students; certificate of illness forms; test rules and regulations; revised High School Diploma Examination Processing statement; and addresses providing further information on transcripts, diplomas, and examinations.
