Community Colleges in the South: Strengthening Readiness and Pathways. Executive Summary
Blanco, Cheryl; Spence, Dave
Southern Regional Education Board (SREB)
Community colleges are essential to achieving state goals--increasing the educational attainment of the population, increasing access and completion, eliminating achievement gaps, closing opportunity gaps, and addressing workforce and economic development objectives. These institutions are flexible, adaptable, affordable, community-based, user-friendly and nearby for the people who need them. This executive summary of the report of SREB's Community College Commission summarizes findings and outlines 21 recommendations for states and community colleges to increase college access and success so that more students can earn postsecondary credentials and enter careers that are in demand in their communities. (For the full report, see ED559260.)
