Prepared at the request of the American Medical Association Council on Environmental and Public Health, this pamphlet on air pollution is one of a series of publications published by the Council as part of its continuing responsibility to provide current information on environmental health problems to the physician, the medical society, the community, and voluntary health and scientific organizations. Written primarily for the physician, it gives a general overview and definition of the problem, sources of pollution, an assessment of air quality and its standards, control measures, and the medical program related to air resource management.
