New Roles for Project Design Engineers
Swinson, Ronnie; Clark, Aaron C.; Ernst, Jeremy V.; Sutton, Kevin
Technology and Engineering Teacher, v75 n8 p8-12 May-Jun 2016
"Employers want individuals who are self-motivated, are driven, and can effectively communicate this to their work groups and supervisors" (Pence & Rowe, 2012, p. 50). Projects assigned by teachers or bosses can seem monumental, but by breaking them down into individual parts they can be managed to completion. There are many jobs where project management is not a normal responsibility, but with a little organizational assistance from project management skills, some planning, and communication, anyone can do it. The role of the engineer, technologist, and designer is to work in all aspects where his or her individual expertise is needed. Preparing students to work through this process prepares them to be leaders who can manage and communicate needs throughout the development and implementation of projects in their professional or even personal life.
