Dr. Artist.
Lightfoot, Thomas R.
The world is in the middle of a major paradigm shift, as the paradigm of dominion over nature is coming to an end with the acceptance of the arts and other subjectively oriented technologies as useful in our effort to live in the universe. Little by little, awareness of this fundamental change in world view is emerging. The importance of art in this new view is becoming apparent. The principles that guide art are actually those that seem to be missing from the scientific approach. The recognition of the values of intuition; feeling; personal perception; and the softer, warmer sides of life will bring a more humanistic approach to everything. Science and art should not be separate, but should be understood as both exploring the essential nature of the great mystery of life. Education must also change to accommodate the new paradigm, and it undoubtedly will, as people can no longer afford to split internal and external realities. (Contains 7 references.) (SLD)
