Social Coordination during Pretend Play: Comparisons with Nonpretend Play and Effects on Expressive Content.
Lorimier, Sylvie de; And Others
Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, v41 n4 p497-516 Oct 1995
Examined the role of pretend play interactions in stimulating social and emotional competence by comparing the quality of pretend and nonpretend social play. Found that pretend play involved more complex, mutually responsive, and emotionally invested social interaction than nonpretend play. Expression of psychosocial issues within pretense was fostered by engagement in highly coordinated rather than less socially involved pretend play. (AA)
