An Exploratory Study of the Elements to Develop a Coaching Model
Brown, Gwendolyn
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
This exploratory study examined the elements of a coaching model based on the best practices that first focus on providing managers with the ability to develop workers and increase productivity, before using existing models that only support the process of managing workers, when it becomes apparent that the worker is not meeting expected performance standards. A Likert questionnaire was used to survey managers and workers from various industries. The results of this research showed there was a significant difference in rankings between the paired categories of the identified elements. The results of the study implied that for the surveyed sample, the elements to develop a coaching model are far more likely to affect the identified elements that would provide managers with the ability to effectively coach workers. The study's findings further suggested that continued investigation of a substantiated model of coaching, centered on adult experiential learning theory and attributes that enhance a worker's productivity, has merit.
