The Democratization of Education. International Perspectives on the Preparation of Educational Personnel. Proceedings of the World Assembly of the International Council on Education for Teaching (27th, Mar del Plata, Argentina, August 11-15, 1980).
Leavitt, Howard B., Ed.; And Others
The articles in this monograph examine the fundamental world-wide shifts of ideology, policy, and practice that are characteristic of attempts to provide appropriate and relevant education for all members of a social system. The first section deals with the policies, issues, and concepts that are emerging with the progressively more democratic approach to education. Articles are included on the cultural role of education, motivation for educational development, implications for educators, equality for women, and preparing educators to meet individual needs. In the second section, an international perspective on the democratization of education is presented. Articles offer perspectives from Argentina, Egypt, Africa, Korea, Chile, Israel, and Brazil. The implications for teacher education in the democratization of education are discussed in the third section. Viewpoints are given from the Peoples Republic of China, Liberia, Canada, and the United States. The final section provides considerations on research to improve educational practice. Research reports are presented from Jamaica, Columbia, Malaysia, Argentina, and the United States. (JD)
