This book emphasizes female adolescents' healthy development within a psychoanalytic frame of reference for what is normative, that also indicates the boundaries of and transitions to what is deviant. The book's 12 articles relate to 3 general topics. The two articles in part 1 of the book, which addresses biological issues, are "Female Pubertal Development" and "Differential Cognitive Development in Adolescent Girls," both written by Judith S. Dubas and Anne C. Petersen. Part 2 examines the psychodynamics of development. Four articles in this part are: "Female Adolescence: Toward a Separate Line of Female Development" (Joan J. Zilbach); "The Changing Body Image of the Adolescent Girl" (Maj-Britt Rosenbaum); "The Superego in the Adolescent Female" (Hyman L. Muslin and Jonathan D.
