This book is the first volume of a collection of papers from the Seventh Interdisciplinary Conference on Piagetian theory and its implications for the helping professions social work and psychological services. More than 40 papers are included. Areas explored in the papers include development of prosocial behavior in children; the effect of biological-maturational and cultural-educational factors on children's development; cognitive and affective development of handicapped and behaviorally disturbed children; development of verbal reasoning, numerical ability and conservation concepts in children; children's concepts of healing, death, and play, and their attribution of motives; children's decentering abilities; classroom application of Piagetian theory concerning stages of development in both normal and handicapped children; and application of Piagetian theory to the study of adult thought.
