This report describes features of the Audio Laboratory System (ALS), a device which supports research activities of the Southwest Regional Laboratory's Music Program. The ALS is used primarily to generate recorded audio tapes for psychomusicology research related to children's perception and learning of music concepts such as pitch, loudness, timbre, time, and form. Major sections of the document describe ALS's design, audio components, system components, audio modification, audio recording, monitoring events, and controlling events. Also presented is an inventory which details each module in the ALS control system by programming function. The inventory includes conversion modules, logic modules, timing modules, and counting modules. The report suggests that a major advantage of ALS for psychomusicological research is that it provides for controlled manipulation of the basic vibrational properties of sound. (DB)
