Hoepli, Nancy, Ed.
Eight selected U.S. foreign policy issues are explored in this study and discussion guide. Issue 1, "U.S. Foreign Policy: Projecting U.S. Influence," describes United States involvement in diplomacy, military power, intelligence, trade, and foreign aid since World War II. U.S.-Mexico relations are considered in issue 2, "Mexico and the United States: Ambivalent Allies," and economic factors are explored as issue 3 in "U.S. Trade and Global Markets: Risks and Opportunities." Policy changes are featured in issue 4, "The Soviet Union: Gorbachev's Reforms," while issue 5 investigates the "U.S. and the Middle East: Dangerous Drift?" Issue 6 considers selected world-wide concerns in "The Global Environment: Reassuring the Threat." History and recent changes in South Korea are addressed in issue 7, "South Korea: The Future of Democracy," and the document concludes with issue 8, "Western Europe: Between the Superpowers." Discussion questions and references follow each issue, and maps, pictures, tables, and graphs are included. An opinion ballot is appended. (JHP)
