MS DOS Tool Software Including Public Domain, Grades 6-12.
New York City Board of Education, Brooklyn, NY.
This curriculum guide is designed to assist teachers and supervisors in introducing middle and high school students to the MS DOS computer and its functional application software in word processing, database management, and spreadsheet analysis. The guide begins by introducing students to computers: when and how they are used, hardware and software, and the proper handling of disks and computer lab equipment. Basic computer skills such as loading, saving, and formatting disks are covered next, followed by an introduction to the word processing program PC Write. Student activities include the writing of reports, stories, poems, letters, and a class newspaper. The PC-File III program teaches students how to make files on different topics and organize reports from the files. The As Easy As spreadsheet program teaches students how to create budgets, order forms, and other computing skills. Each lesson contains student worksheets and activities that reinforce what is taught in the lesson. These may also be found in the Appendix. It is suggested that the book be used sequentially. The data disk and three program disks that usually accompany the guide are not included in this document. (DB)
