Innovations and Innovation Processes in Higher Education.
Berg, Barbro; Ostergren, Bertil
Included in this report are seven comparative case studies of innovation processes in higher education in Sweden. The purpose of the study is to chart dysfunctions in the system in planning for change, and also to gain more knowledge of the organization by studying it when it has been "disturbed" through introduction of an innovative process. The case studies involve: (1) undergraduate art at the University of Lund; (2) eastern European studies at the University of Uppsala; (3) a proposal for a new curriculum plan in civics; (4) an environmental studies program at the University of Lund; (5) architecture at Chalmers Technological Institute; (6) systematic anatomy at the Caroline Institute of Medicine; and (7) instructional television at the School of Technology in Linkoping. The processes are analyzed, theories discussed, and change strategies examined; Background information on the Swedish system of higher education is given.
