Changes & Challenges: Hot Topics in a New Era of Schools. Proceedings of the Education Law Association Winter Seminar (Park City, UT, March 15-18, 2001). Seminar Outlines.
Education Law Association, Dayton, OH.
The following are outlines presented by individuals at the Education Law Association 2001 winter seminar: "Academic Freedom and the Religiously Affiliated University" (the freedom to teach, research, and publish has never been--and still is not--without limits); "How Random and Suspicionless May School Searches Be" (random and suspicionless drug testing of students who participate in specific activities has gained popularity, raising concerns about the potential for violation of the Fourth Amendment rights of students); "Wow! Did You Hear What They Said? Trends in the Use of Immorality as a Cause of Dismissal for School Personnel" (a taxonomy of lawsuits involving different types of immorality); "Facing a Day in Court: A Collaborative Learning Model for University Professors and School Practitioners" (redesign of curriculum and application in the administrator preparation program as it relates to coursework in school law); "The Legal Requirements of Title IX in Athletics" (jurisdiction, legal history, Title IX basics, athletic financial assistance, and effective accommodation of student interests); "The Free Expression Rights of Faculty in the Information Age. Copyright Law in Cyberspace: The Impact on Faculty Ownership and Productivity" (an examination of litigation regarding constitutional rights, especially those of free expression, and the electronic media); and "Zero Tolerance or (In)tolerance Policies? Due Process and the Law of Student Suspensions and Expulsions" (an examination of zero-tolerance policies largely in relation to their legal implications in regard to the law of student suspensions and expulsions).
