Down Syndrome Research and Practice, v8 n3 p115-19 Aug 2003
This study evaluated sleep-related breathing disorders in six adults with Down syndrome. Five were found to have respiratory events justifying the diagnosis of sleep apnea syndrome. Results suggest that the nocturnal respiratory pattern of adults with Down syndrome depends on several pathogenetic factors such as age, severity of upper airway abnormalities, body mass index, other pathological conditions, and age-related brainstem dysfunction.
