Research Connections Canada: Supporting Children and Families, Number 6.
Lowe, Elaine, Ed.
Serving as a vehicle for raising the profile of and thereby gaining recognition for the important research and development work being conducted in Canada in support of children and families, the "Research Connections Canada" series compiles research and/or development papers as well as background papers, analytical literature reviews, and essays. This issue of the series focuses on quality in child care, and on training for family child care. The papers are as follows: (1) "Quality Child Care and Partnerships with Parents" (Marilynn Kuhn), on building and maintaining collaborative relationships with families; (2) "Regulations as a Strategy for Promoting Quality in Child Care Settings" (Gillian Doherty), exploring desirable levels of regulation and the extent to which current Canadian child care regulations support and encourage quality; (3) "Literature Review of Training and Family Day Care" (David Boisvert), identifying what the Canadian, British and American literatures reveal about the need for, implementation of, and design of family child care training programs; and (4) "Ontario Home Child Care: Providers' Reports of Training and Educational Experiences" (Irene Kyle), summarizing home child care providers' comments about their interest in and experience with taking part in a variety of formal and informal training and educational opportunities. All of the papers contain references. (HTH)
