Educational Policy in Foreign Countries.
Cole, Barbara, Ed.
Five talks given at a seminar on educational policy in foreign countries are presented in this document. The first contends that while schools established for Americans abroad tend to be isolated from the local community for several reasons, opportunities for extended cultural interchange exist and should be used. The second examines the nature of policy and its dissemination before reflecting on the position of educational administration in the context of evolving educational policy. According to a study reported in the third talk, the assumption that crisis situations can stimulate or lead to radical changes in governmental educational policy was found not to be accurate in the case of Israel's educational system following the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The fourth considers policy development in higher education on an international scale in Africa. The final talk concentrates on the possible contribution of anthropology to educational policy in developing countries, as exemplified in the development of policy for Australian Aboriginal schools.
