The Executive Committee at "ZERO TO THREE" created a Task Force on Culture and Development to deepen our understanding of the role of culture in child development and to guide the organization through a self-assessment process to better understand how staff and board members address the issue of culture in their work. The task force's literature review focused on how culture influences cognitive, language, and social-emotional development in Caucasian, Hispanic, and African American children living in the United States and discovered a limited knowledge base. "ZERO TO THREE's" organizational self-assessment has led to a heightened awareness of issues of culture and diversity at all levels of the organization and a commitment to integrating this awareness into all aspects of the organization's work.
