Assessment of Support Facilities Available to Degree Programme Distance Learning Students in the Southwestern Nigerian Universities

The study assessed the availability of support facilities to degree programme distance learning students in two universities in Nigeria's University of Ibadan and of Ado-Ekiti. A sample of 250 students was drawn from the two universities. A questionnaire on distance learning student support facilities (DLSSFQ) was elicited. Analysis of the data showed that student support facilities were not adequately provided. However, sampled individuals perceived that distance learning was not better organized and implemented than mere university matriculation examination or school certificate examination coaching centres. The problems identified constitute a threat to the academic integrity of graduates from distance education centres. (Contains 3 tables.)
