Adaptation of Jobs for the Disabled.
International Labour Office, Geneva (Switzerland).
The handbook provides an illustrated guide to ways of improving useful employment of the disabled by adapting jobs. How to increase employment opportunities by making simple adjustments (adaption or redesign of tools, machines, work places) is demonstrated. The nature of occupational handicap is discussed, stressing the importance of job and worker appraisal. Comparing handicaps with job demands through functional assessment and job requirement analysis forms is considered, and the content and completion of various examples of such forms presented. Practical possibilities of job adaptation for specific handicaps and working conditions are listed. Also considered are administrative and organizational problems encountered in job adaptation. Appended are specimen assessment forms and photographs illustrating various adaptations. (KW)
