The findings of a recently completed study comparing the responsibilities and duties of personnel directors in 1970 with those in 1977 are reported. Personnel departments grew both in scope of function and staff size, and staff members now take a much more active role in academic as well as non-academic personnel matters due to federal regulations and unionization.
