Abraham Lincoln--His Words and His World: a Unit Plan.

Planned for an eighth-grade classroom, this unit plan, consisting of 19 lesson plans on the topic of Abraham Lincoln, is based upon the fulfillment of 17 unit objectives. Each daily lesson plan specifies the following: lesson theme, learner objective, needed prerequisites, new vocabulary or terms, learning set/motivation, presentation of new content, practice/extension/application, closure/evaluation of learning, teacher evaluation of learning effectiveness, and materials necessary to complete the lesson. Individual lessons include such activities as the completion of a mathematics grid worksheet depicting, when completed, Lincoln's profile, construction of cornhusk dolls, the use of quill pens, computation of scale and distance using maps, the construction of a scale model of New Salem Village, etc. Arranged in a logical, coherent, and cumulative fashion, the unit concludes with a culminating activity and is followed in the reference section by a list of 17 sources/resources.
