Developmental Disabilities Prevention and the Distribution of Risk among American Indians.
Mendola, Pauline; And Others
American Indian and Alaska Native Mental Health Research, v5 n3 p30-44 1994
Compared to the U.S. general population, American Indian children experience a smaller proportion of genetic and congenital anomalies associated with developmental disabilities and greater risk associated with prenatal exposure to alcohol and tobacco, maternal diabetes, and disabling sequelae of accidents and otitis media. Prevention efforts focused on relevant risk factors could reduce overall risk of developmental disabilities. (KS)
