The Development of "De-Isolation" Strategies for Nova University Programs for Higher Education Regional Cluster Students.
Kole, James P.
An investigation was conducted to develop isolation reduction strategies to reduce the feeling of isolation expressed by many of the Nova University Programs for Higher Education regional cluster students. A needs assessment was initiated to discover what the broad-range needs of regional students were and to actively develop strategies to meet those needs. A needs assessment was also conducted among the South Florida local cluster students to determine if their feelings of isolation were the same. A content analysis of the regional cluster survey results revealed that a majority of the regional students did experience feelings of isolation. The main area of concern was the general communication gaps between students, faculty, research associates, practicum advisors, Nova Central staff, cluster coordinator, etc. The local cluster survey had too low a response rate to develop alternative recommendations; however, the regional cluster survey was adequate enough to develop the following recommendations: (1) Increase regional cluster communications system-wide; (2) provide more detailed program information; and (3) organize Programs for Higher Education regional information into an "Orientation Manual." Contains 9 references. (GLR)
