Major developments for the Navajo Health Authority (NHA) and the new American Indian School of Medicine (AISOM) during 1976-77 are highlighted in this fifth annual report by NHA commissioners. Developments cited include renovation of the Shiprock Community Center for use by AISOM, last year of funding from the Area Health Education Center Contract, establishment of AISOM by the Navajo Tribal Council, AISOM Feasibility Study undertaken, administrative staff changes. The report summarizes activities undertaken on behalf of and by AISOM (details of the start-up of AISOM), purpose and goal accomplishments of NHA's Office of Liaison, operation of the Division of Administration and Support Services, and finally, brief narratives about programs underway at Window Rock and Shiprock. Window Rock programs covered are Student Affairs, Native Healing Sciences, Nursing Education, Health Education, Health Statistics and Research, and Allied Health Training and Emergency Medical Services. The section on Shiprock discusses these programs: Navajo Ethno-Medical Encyclopedia Project, Media Center, Preventive Medicine, Family and Community Medicine, and Comprehensive Family Planning. An update of program accomplishments during NHA's five years are listed under headings of recruiting and scholarship, training programs, continuing education, and health statistics and research.
