Teaching Creative Thinking through Architectural Design
Jeon, Kijeong; Cotner, Teresa L.
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v109 n5 p24-25 Jan 2010
Art and art education are open to broader definitions in the twenty-first century. It is time that teachers seriously think about including built environment design in K-12 art education. The term "built environment" includes interior design, architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning. Due to increased exposure to built environment design in people's everyday lives, lack of education in this area is a critical issue. This article describes how the authors came up with an approach to developing students' awareness of built environment design in their daily lives and developing their creative thinking abilities. The authors offer some steps for teachers who wish to teach architectural design. (Contains 1 online resource.)
