The United States History = Lich Su Hoa Ky. [34 Self-Learning Packets for Vietnamese Students.]
Nhi, Do Dien; And Others
Designed primarily for Indochinese students in grades 9-12, 34 United States history self-learning packets are presented in eight sections. The publication could be used by mainstream teachers who have a number of limited English proficient (LEP) Vietnamese students in their classes or by parents to tutor their children. The packets were adapted from "Two Centuries of Progress: U.S. History" (Laidlaw Brothers) and include both Vietnamese and English translations. Section I deals with the first peoples to migrate to this continent, American Indian life and societies, Europeans settling the Americas, the English in North America, the thirteen colonies, and the American Revolution. Section II, "Establishing a New Nation," includes the following subtitles, "A Nation Arises,""A Nation Takes Shape," and "The First Government." Section III focuses on the Jeffersonian Era, the westward movement, the Age of Jackson, and slavery and the antislavery movement. Section IV, "Conflict and Reunion," examines the period between the slavery dispute and the Civil War, the Missouri Compromise, a nation divided and reunited, and the election of 1876. Section V, "The Transformation of a Nation," discusses industrialism, the emergence of modern America, a changing social order, and the populist crusade. Packets in sections VI through VIII focus on "The Challenge of Power and Prosperity,""Depression and Global Conflict," and "World Leadership in the Nuclear Age." A glossary concludes the publication.
