Corroborated previous research findings demonstrating that problem-solving moderated stress-related depressive symptoms, showing effective problem solvers under high levels of stress reported significantly lower depression than did ineffective problem solvers. Used a prospective design with two measures, controlled for prior depression level, and included methodological controls to increase the validity of the assessment of stressful life events.
