Summer Principals'/Directors' Orientation Training Module.

Intended to provide current or potential project principals/directors with the basic knowledge, skills, abilities, and sensitivities needed to manage a summer migrant school project in the local educational setting, this module provides instruction in the project management areas of planning, preparation, control, and termination. The module consists of 12 instructional, individualized management instructions and evaluations. Each lesson contains an introduction, exercises, management instructions, and steps for evaluation. Grouped into four phases according to the project's life-span (planning, preparation, operational control, and termination), the lessons cover an introduction to project management, project definition, development of a work flow, time estimation, resource estimation and scheduling, project start-up, project information system, project operations (monitoring and control), problem-solving through management action, implementation of changes in project operations, and project termination. A glossary of project management terms and suggestions for tasks identification are included. The module concludes with "noteworthy" information for the following program components: reading, mathematics, career education, music, arts/crafts, medical/dental, food services, physical education, recreation, special education, English as a Second Language, transportation, identification and recruitment, administrative details, parent involvement, and community coordination.
