Volleyball: Course Proposal.
Yeo, David G.
A proposal is presented for a Community College of Philadelphia Life Sciences and Allied Health Services course in volleyball. Following a standard cover form, a course description and statement of purpose explain that the course is designed to teach students the skills and fundamentals of team play, the rules and etiquette of the game, and the principles of basic strategy and tournament play. Next, course goals and a course outline are presented, and corresponding course-level objectives (CLO's) are identified. Finally, the CLO's, related intermediate performance objectives, learning activities, and measures of acceptable performance are presented. The four CLO's stipulate that the student will: (1) analyze the history, rules, terminology, and etiquette of volleyball; (2) analyze and perform the conditioning and warm-up activities of volleyball; (3) analyze the volleyball skills of the pass, bump, serve, set, spike, block, and dink; and (4) analyze tactics and mental skills involved in volleyball offensive and defensive strategy. A class progression outline; recommendations regarding texts, scheduling, supplies, and equipment; a final exam; an overview of rules and techniques; a self evaluation form; and a take-home exam conclude the packet.
