Marketing Education
Stancil, Ronald A., Sr.
Principal Leadership, v8 n8 p28-32 Apr 2008
This article discusses the Marketing Education program at West Haven (CT) High School in West Haven, Connecticut, that promotes skills for life and attributes, enhances the academic program, and develops leaders out of ordinary students through an interactive curriculum. The three components of West Haven's marketing and management program are (1) quality classroom instruction; (2) business participation; and (3) DECA, the cocurricular career and technical student organization. The program teaches students cognitive skills that are directly applicable in the real world (Berns & Erickson, 2001; Stone & Alfeld, 2004) and enables students to apply content along with the knowledge and skills they learn in other courses, such as the arts, math, science, language arts, technology, government, and history.
