The theme of the 2001 "ASIST" (American Society for Information Science and Technology) annual conference is "Information in a Networked World," which covers a broad range of theory and practice in information science. The program includes 52 refereed papers, 46 SIG and panel sessions, and 33 poster presentations. Topics include: digital libraries; data mining; multimedia retrieval; taxonomies; information seeking; visualization; education; interface design; technologies for communication; knowledge management; computer technologies for sharing artifacts; information seeking/user studies; access to the Internet and communities; information seeking/text summarization; Web information architecture; bibliometrics; and uses of classification in Web research and management. This proceedings volume is arranged in three parts. Part 1 consists of contributed papers arranged by topic in order of presentation at the conference. Part 2 is comprised of SIG and panel sessions, again in the order of presentation. Part 3 includes the poster sessions according to the day of their presentation.
