A Suggested Journalism Curriculum for California Junior Colleges.
Margosian, Arthur
The purpose of this study was to develop a suggested journalism curriculum for California junior colleges, based upon the functions and content of journalism programs as they should be, as perceived by a representative group of junior college instructrs and editors of daily and weekly newspapers in California. Data were collected from questionnaires, which were pretested on selected instructors and editors. Editors and instructors agreed the transfer function should be first in importance. Thirty-seven of 39 instructors reported transfer programs at their institutions. Fewer than one-third of the journalism students enrolled in Fall 1968 remained in Spring 1970. Junior college journalism curriculum revision should be carried out by the junior college instructors, who should lead other educators, and the instructors should initiate a single-track concept in journalism curriculum for transfer and career students.
