Treating Cyberbullying as a School Violence Issue
Stover, Del
Education Digest: Essential Readings Condensed for Quick Review, v72 n4 p40-42 Dec 2006
Schools that take a tough stance against schoolyard bullying are beginning to realize how things are changing in the 21st century. Today's bullies are turning more to technology--and cyberspace--for the purpose of tormenting their victims. To some extent, it is classic bullying--but it is also bullying that takes place in a new medium that expands the opportunities that exist for mischief. This article addresses cyberbullying as a school violence issue. It discusses the significant impact of cyberbullying on student victims, and highlights the responsibilities of school districts in protecting the students against any form of cyberbullying.
