Risks/Needs of Children/Youth with Behavior Disorders in Correctional Institutions in Croatia
Ratkajec, Gabrijela; Jedud, Ivana
Journal of the International Association of Special Education, v11 n1 p75-85 Spr 2010
Previous research and experience in Croatia show that interventions are not matched with the risk level and intervention needs of children with behavior disorders. As a result of that, the situation in Croatia requires actuarial approach to the risks and needs assessment of children and youth. The purpose of the current research is to put stronger and more explicit emphasis on the intervention system for children and youth at-risk oriented towards the rights and needs of those children and youth. The purpose of this paper is to examine the differences between children and youths in various kinds of institutions regarding level of risks and strengths. The sample consisted of 418 children/youths with behavior disorders from 14 institutions. Youth Level of Service/Case Management Inventory (Hoge, Andrews & Leschied, 2002) was used to assess eight areas of risk and need. The results indicate that children in various types of institutions have specific needs regarding their risk level. (Contains 9 tables and 3 figures.)
