The Power and Strategic Art of Revise-and-Resubmit: Maintaining Balance in Academic Publishing
Hardre, Patricia L.
Journal of Faculty Development, v27 n1 p13-19 Jan 2013
A common decision of journal editors when faced with promising papers is that the author revise-and-resubmit. Responding thoughtfully and strategically to this invitation improves the probability of eventual acceptance dramatically. However, in the rush-to-publish, early-career educational researchers may lack awareness and skill in managing the revision-and-resubmission process. Doing so effectively requires balancing expertise, critical self-reflection and professional integrity, then communicating effectively without becoming ego-involved. This paper takes a broad view of academic publishing framed within the varying goals of authors and editors. It provides advice on how to respond to a revise-and-resubmit decision and how to craft the cover letter that accompanies a revised article. (Contains 1 footnote.)
