A Look Ahead: Supreme Court Likely to Have a Blockbuster Term
Hawke, Catherine
Social Education, v77 n6 p304-306 Nov-Dec 2013
It is not often that Supreme Court watchers agree; however, right now, it seems that most agree on one thing: the Supreme Court term that started in October 2013 is going to be a blockbuster. The docket over the last couple of years has had more than its fair share of headline-grabbing cases, from gay marriage to Obamacare to the Voting Rights Act. Years ago, an earth-shattering term would generally be followed by a few relatively quiet ones. Over the last three to four years, however, one high profile term has followed closely on the heels of another, and 2013-2014 is on track to continue the trend. During the 2013-2014 term, the Supreme Court will consider hot button issues such as campaign finance and affirmative action, and will soon hear cases dealing with international child kidnappings, the Fair Housing Act, and the First Amendment and reproductive rights.
